Sekitar 70% anak di Indonesia pernah terjangkit setidaknya sekali oleh virus dengue, dan banyak diantaranya berakhir dengan kematian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Layaknya penyakit yang disebabkan oleh virus, maka penyakit DBD belum ada obatnya. Untuk mengatasi virus ini, biasanya digunakan vaksin dan antiviral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hal tersebut diungkapkan oleh Dr. Anom Bowolaksono, M.Sc., ahli biologi molekuler Departemen Biologi FMIPA UI kepada tim humas FMIPA UI dalam wawancara singkat melalui pesan&nbsp;<em>whatsapp<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSaat ini vaksin anti dengue sebetulnya telah ditemukan, namun dikarenakan kurang&nbsp; spesifik, trial data menunjukkan efisiensinya masih sangat rendah\u201d. ujar Anom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oleh karena itu, lanjut Anom, masih dibutuhkan pengobatan antiviral dan kandidat-kandidat antiviral baru yang lebih efektif untuk mengatasinya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Berlatar belakang hal tersebut, dirinya dan peneliti asal Inggris Peter Barlow dari Edinburgh Napier University berkolaborasi menciptakan terobosan baru untuk memerangi penyakit demam berdarah dengue (DBD) dengan melakukan proyek penelitian berjudul \u201cCathelicidins As Novel Therapeutic Antivirals For Dengue Infection\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dalam proyek penelitiannya itu, Ia dan Peter akan menguji molekul cathelicidins yang diproduksi sistem kekebalan tubuh manusia, apakah molekul sebagai kandidat antiviral baru ini dapat dimodifikasi untuk memerangi demam berdarah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cathelicidins adalah salah satu anggota Host Defence Peptides (atau protein antimicrobial) yang juga memiliki aktivitas immunomodulatory dan memiliki kemampuan antiviral yang sangat baik. Molekul ini secara alami dapat ditemukan di dalam serum darah, baik manusia dan vertebrata lainnya. Juga berperan penting ketika terjadi infeksi sebagai antimikroba dan antivirus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Melalui proyek penelitiannya tersebut, Ia meraih pendanaan riset melalui program riset newton fund antara Medical Research Council (MRC) dan Kementerian Riset, Teknologi, dan Pendidikan Tinggi RI.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Indonesia termasuk dalam negara kedua terbanyak di dunia dengan penderita demam berdarah dengue (DBD) setiap tahunnya.
