FMIPA UI Supports Technological Education Transformation in Papua through Collaboration with Mappi AI Hub

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI) reaffirmed its commitment to supporting educational transformation in eastern Indonesia by actively participating in the use of AI technology to help improve the quality of education, providing full support to Mappi Regency through the Mappi AI Hub Program. The event was held at the Qhaindau Uri Building, Kepi, Mappi Regency, South Papua, on Friday (May 2).

FMIPA UI’s participation in this collaboration aligns with its mission to promote inclusive and sustainable education across Indonesia. The Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., was present at the inauguration and expressed his appreciation for the progressive initiative of the Mappi Regency Government in partnering with higher education institutions to build a technology-based educational ecosystem in the Eastern Region of Indonesia.

"Thank you to the Mappi Regency Government for collaborating with the Institute of Applied Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (LST UI). This program is a strategic step to introduce the latest technologies, especially Artificial Intelligence (AI), to our children," said Prof. Dede.

Prof. Dede also emphasized that this collaboration is in line with the program of the Indonesian Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen RI) regarding the integration of coding and artificial intelligence into the elementary school curriculum. Therefore, through this collaboration, FMIPA UI also supports the implementation of the program.

"We hope this program can shape a young generation that is confident, globally competitive, and motivated to pursue higher education at top universities, including Universitas Indonesia," he added.

The Mappi AI Hub is not only intended for students but also provides training for educators. This training includes the development of contextual and engaging teaching materials, such as educational animations, as well as the advancement of research and technology-based content.

"The main goal is to shape students' character and abilities so that they are not only academically prepared but also possess a global perspective," emphasized Prof. Dede.

This collaboration is facilitated by the Special Work Unit of the Institute of Applied Sciences (UKK-LST) FMIPA UI, which has been actively providing consulting services, training, laboratory testing, and certification to support industry and national development.

Eko Waludi, S.T., M.Si., Head of the Institute of Applied Sciences at FMIPA UI, added that this program is part of UI's commitment to delivering real impact from science and technology to society.

"UKK LST FMIPA UI serves as a bridge between academics and real-world needs. Through the Mappi AI Hub program, we aim to equip teachers and students with practical and relevant technological skills to assist the government in improving the quality of education in Indonesia," said Eko.

Through this synergy, FMIPA UI hopes to be part of the solution in building a smarter, more independent, and competitive future for Papua.
