The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia held the 2024 Main and Category Outstanding Student Selection (Pilmapres) entitled "Independence, Achievement, Inspiring Indonesian Student Talent", on Thursday morning (7/3/2024), at the Prof. Dr. G.A. Siwabessy Hall, UI Campus, Depok.
This activity was attended by a total of 24 students who were representatives from each department and study program. Participants consisted of 4 students from the Mathematics Department, 3 students from the Chemistry Department, 1 student from the Physics Department, 7 students from the Biology Department, 5 students from the Geography Department, 3 students from the Geophysics Study Program, and 1 student from the Geology Department.
Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dede Djuhana, Ph.D. in his speech said that FMIPA UI continues to support students to improve their achievements. One of them is through the Pilmapres activity which is a prestigious event among students to show off their achievements.
"FMIPA UI continues to strive to improve the achievements of its students, one of which is through the Pilmapres competition which is held every year. This Pilmapres should be a motivation for you to show the best achievements," said Prof. Dede.

He also reminded his students to be able to adapt to change, and continue to be enthusiastic about learning throughout life. Moreover, the Dean continued, currently the presence of technological developments is happening so quickly. This can be used by students as a golden opportunity to improve their abilities hard skill and soft skill.
"This college period is a golden time to hone academic and non-academic skills. Moreover, we are currently in an era of rapid technological development, so make the most of the opportunities available to learn and achieve," said Prof. Dede.

In this way, in the future, students are expected to be able to apply the knowledge they gain to help solve problems that develop in society.

Chief Executive Dr. Dewi Susiloningtyas, S.Si., M.Si said, "For the Main Mapres there are 12 participants, and for the Category Mapres there are also 12 participants. The categories in this year's pilmapres are still the same as the previous year, namely entrepreneurship, sports, arts and culture, and social and environment," said Dr. Dewi.
The Student Affairs Manager of FMIPA UI also explained that there was something different in the implementation of this year's pilmapres. The changes are in the time and place of the Mapres Category selection. Where the Mapres Category this year, was held simultaneously with the Mapres Utama selection, but the location was different. Mapres Category was held at the FMIPA UI Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory Building - PT Pertamina (Persero).
He also said that the committee would announce the winners of the Main and Category Mapres in the afternoon after the entire series of activities were completed.
"So for today, there will be an English judging with a presentation of creative ideas, from all the main Mapres participants in this Hall. As well as the announcement of the Main Mapres winners and categories this afternoon after the entire series of events are finished," he said.
Regarding the judging stage, he explained that the judging stage of the 2024 FMIPA UI Outstanding Student Selection consists of Excellent CVs, Creative Ideas, and English. For the Mapres category, it consists of CVs, Creative Ideas, and Creative Ideas presentations using Indonesian.
Judging for the Main CV Unggulan Mapres and Creative Ideas was carried out on the previous day, namely Monday-Thursday, March 4-6, 2024.
Also present at this event were the Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs; Prof. Dr. rer.nat. Budiawan, Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration; Dr. Tito Latif Indra, Education Manager; Rika Tri Yunarti, S.Si., M.Eng., Ph.D, Heads of Departments, Heads of Study Programs in FMIPA UI.
The Outstanding Student Selection (Pilmapres) is organized by the Indonesian Talent Development Center (BPTI), Secretariat General of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, as an effort to encourage students to excel not only academically but also to become individuals who are creative, innovative, highly competitive, and possess strong character.
The assessment of outstanding students' excellence will be evaluated from the aspects of knowledge and skills as well as life skills, including communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and other superior character traits.
In addition, the selection procedure is carried out in stages, based on the principle of equality between PTN and PTS, and based on regional representation which is continued with life skills training at the final stage.
