More than 12 thousand students participate in the 2020 Pertamina Earth Friends Competition – FMIPA UI
The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) collaborates with PT Pertamina (Persero) roll out Earth Friends Competition (KSB) 2020 Science Theory Category. KSB Science Theory Category is a national science competition event intended for students of state or private universities throughout Indonesia. KSB 2020 Provincial Level Selection Science Category officially opened by UI Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris, M.Sc.online on Wednesday (11/11).
Also present at the opening of the event were UI Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation drg. Nurtami, Ph. D., Sp, OF(K), Manager of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of PT Pertamina Persero Dian Hapsari, Senior Officer of CSR Management of Pertamina Audy Arwinandha, Acting Dean of FMIPA UI Dr. Rokhmatuloh, M.Eng., Chair of KSB 2020 Science Theory Category, Prof. Dr. Yoki Yulizar, M.Sc., Dean of the Faculty of Medicine UI, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering UI, Dean of the Faculty of Psychology UI, Secretary General of MIPAnet Prof. Dr. Hadi Suwono, and the Deans of FMIPA who are members of MIPAnet Indonesia.
After the opening, as the first round of KSB 2020 in the science theory category, Pertamina – FMIPA UI immediately conducted an online provincial selection. The selection was conducted for two days until November 12, 2020, followed by 12,747 students from 76 universities throughout Indonesia. The fields competed were Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
In this preliminary round, 40 best participants will be selected to represent 10 zones from the four fields of competition. In addition, 7 participants with the highest scores from each field will also be included. These participants will be included in the next stage, namely the National Level Selection. Participants in each field who get the highest scores in their respective provinces will receive awards as provincial champions.
Prof. Abdul Haris said, "The UI-Pertamina collaboration shows UI's active role in building a climate of synergy between academics and industry in order to provide a forum for students to achieve achievements. We fully support this competition as an effort to maximize the potential and achievements of the young generation in all regions in Indonesia. In the future, we need to interpret this Science Theory globally by involving social science, not only focusing on the hard science side, because in this era of disruption we need to increase collaboration between disciplines."
Dian Hapsari conveyed "Pertamina as the largest BUMN in the energy sector has been assigned by the Ministry of BUMN RI to continue to commit to prioritizing the balance and sustainability of nature, the environment and society. One of them is through the Pertamina Cerdas program which is realized in the 2020 Sobat Bumi Competition. Through KSB 2020 we want to support the government's program to create a superior generation".
Furthermore, Dr. Rokhmatuloh said, "Through the implementation of the 2020 Sobat Bumi Competition, the common goal between FMIPA UI and Pertamina is to contribute to the development of the Indonesian nation. By providing a special competition event, it can encourage the birth of an innovative generation, so that they are able to provide solutions to various problems such as those currently plaguing the world."
After successfully holding the National Science Competition packaged under the name of the Pertamina National Science Olympiad (OSN) nine times in a row, Pertamina and FMIPA UI have again collaborated to hold the 2020 KSB. The implementation of the 2020 Sobat Bumi Competition cannot be separated from the support of various parties, including the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), the Ministry of Research and Technology/National Research and Innovation Agency (RISTEK/BRIN).
KSB 2020 is a scientific competition event that aims to facilitate the younger generation, especially Indonesian students, in exploring their thinking/logic in presenting innovation as a solution to solving problems not only in the scope of corporate and national needs, but also at the level of globalization, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
