FMIPA UI Undergoes ASIIN International Accreditation Visit for Four Doctoral Study Programs

Depok, May 2, 2025 – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI) is once again undergoing the international accreditation visitation stage by the institution  Akkreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik (ASIIN) from Germany, which is known in English as Accreditation Agency for Degree Programs in Engineering, Informatics, Natural Sciences and Mathematics. This visitation is part of the assessment process for four doctoral study programs, namely the Doctoral Programs in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, and Biology.

The series of visitation activities took place over two days, on April 29–30, 2025, at the UI Depok Campus. The activities began with an opening meeting and discussions between the team Expert from ASIIN with the Rector of UI, university leadership, the Dean of FMIPA UI, faculty leadership, and the coordinators of the related study programs. This meeting was held in the Meeting Room on the 9th floor of the Universitas Indonesia Central Administration Building.

In his speech, the Rector of UI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, expressed his appreciation for the presence of Expert from ASIIN. He emphasized that international accreditation plays an important role in ensuring academic quality, especially for doctoral programs, and in encouraging the internationalization of faculties and universities. This accreditation will further enhance UI’s academic reputation on a global level.

“Universitas Indonesia is a leading higher education institution committed to becoming a competitive center of excellence, playing a role in educating the nation, improving welfare, and contributing to global progress,” said Prof. Heri.

“Through this process, we also hope to continuously improve quality, instill a culture of quality throughout the university, and encourage cross-country academic collaboration,” he added.

In agreement with the Rector of UI, the Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., stated that this visitation is an important moment for comprehensive academic reflection.

“This activity is a form of in-depth evaluation of the curriculum, learning processes, and research outcomes to consistently meet high international standards. In addition, it is also FMIPA UI’s effort to improve Key Performance Indicator (KPI) point 8, which is the number of study programs with international standards,” said Prof. Dede.

Kepala Unit Penjaminan Mutu Akademik FMIPA UI, Dr. Denny R. Silaban, M.Kom., menambahkan bahwa asesmen dari ASIIN melibatkan proses evaluasi komprehensif terhadap kualitas akademik, struktur kurikulum, serta keterkaitan dengan dunia industri.

“Asesmen dari ASIIN merupakan evaluasi menyeluruh terhadap kualitas akademik, kurikulum, dan relevansinya dengan dunia industri.” Ujar. Dr. Denny.

Hingga tahun 2024, FMIPA UI telah memiliki tujuh program studi yang meraih akreditasi ASIIN, empat program Sarjana, yaitu S1 Matematika, S1 Fisika, S1 Biologi, dan S1 Geografi, serta tiga program Magister, yaitu S2 Fisika, S2 Ilmu Material, dan S2 Biologi. Dr. Denny berharap empat program studi doktoral yang baru saja menjalani visitasi ini juga dapat memperoleh akreditasi ASIIN sehingga mutu akademik setiap jenjang pendidikan yang ada di di FMIPA terkonfirmasi secara internasional.

Tim asesor ASIIN yang hadir dalam visitasi kali ini berasal dari berbagai institusi akademik ternama di Jerman dan juga mencakup perwakilan industri serta mahasiswa. Mereka adalah:

2. Prof. Dr. Jens Hartung – University of Kaiserslautern-Landau
3. Prof. Dr. Alexander Heisterkampf – Leibniz University Hannover
4. Prof. Dr. Heinrich Kern – Technical University Ilmenau
5. Prof. Dr. Stefan Roth – RWTH Aachen University
6. Nick Wisely – Perwakilan industri
7. Dina Riska – Mahasiswa Doktoral, Universitas Mulawarman
8. Dr. Natalia Vega – Perwakilan ASIIN

Selama dua hari visitasi oleh tim asesor ASIIN, dilakukan serangkaian kegiatan untuk menilai kualitas program studi yang diajukan. Kegiatan ini mencakup wawancara dan diskusi dengan pimpinan univeritas, pimpinan fakultas, departemen, dan Program Studi, dosen, mahasiswa, alumni, serta perwakilan industri. Selain itu, para asesor juga meninjau langsung fasilitas seperti laboratorium, ruang kuliah, perpustakaan, dan sarana pendukung lainnya.

Seluruh rangkaian kegiatan visitasi ditutup dengan pemaparan singkat hasil asesmen sementara oleh tim Expert, yang disusun berdasarkan pedoman dan kriteria penilaian dari ASIIN. Acara penutupan dilanjutkan dengan jamuan makan malam serta pertunjukan tari Nandak Ganjen yang dibawakan oleh Density.

Sebagai informasi, ASIIN merupakan salah satu lembaga akreditasi independen yang paling maju dan berhasil. Hingga awal tahun 2025, ASIIN telah mengakreditasi lebih dari 6600 program studi dari berbagai universtas yang berasal dari 67 negara di dunia.
