MIPAtalk Series 2 Discusses the Important Role of Chemistry and Biology in the Context of Health Issues

Wednesday, (6/4/2022). The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) again held a webinar entitled MIPAtalk Series. In this second series, the theme was The Roles Of Chemistry and Biologi in Modern Therapeutic by inviting someone Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry The University of Kansas, Prof. Teruna J. Siahaan as a resource person, and Dr. Endang Saepudin from the Department of Chemistry, FMIPA UI as a moderator.

Still carried out online through the Zoom Meeting platform, this activity was also broadcast live through the official YouTube channel of FMIPA UI Offcial. Participants who attended the webinar consisted of academics within UI, researchers outside UI, and the general public. who have registered as participants through the registration link provided by the committee.

The event was opened with remarks from the Vice Dean for Education, Research and Student Affairs of FMIPA UI Dr. rer. nat. Budiawan. In his remarks, Dr. rer. nat. Budiawan said, “This activity has indeed been programmed by the faculty as part of our efforts to improve the academic reputation of the University of Indonesia.”

He said that the topics discussed in this series are very interesting because they discuss the important role of chemistry and biology in the context of health issues. Through this webinar, he hopes to get input, ideas, or things related to research or collaboration in chemistry and biology on the topics discussed.

Prof. Teruna J. Siahaan revealed a new trend in therapeutic discovery and development so that the role of chemistry, biochemistry, and biology is changing in designing molecules for the future. In addition, it is needed in training new scientists and students to adapt to the new scientific paradigm. Therefore, there needs to be thinking about changes in research and teaching at the basis of the science department.

MIPAtalk series 2 lasted for two hours. The webinar participants had great enthusiasm. This was indicated by the many questions addressed to Prof. Teruna J. Siahaan.

Dr. Endang Saepudin as the event moderator said that the two hours provided felt very short with the many topics that needed to be discussed. The webinar event was closed with a group photo with the participants virtually.
