Universitas Indonesia FMIPA UI Strengthens Global Networks Through the UI INSIGHT Program by Hosting International Visiting Professors
Depok, May 22, 2026 – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI), continues to strengthen its academic reputation and international networks through the implementation of the UI INSIGHT (International Visiting Professor and Guest Lecture) program at the Department of Chemistry, FMIPA UI, held from May 18–22, 2026. The program is part of the EQUITY WCU UI 2025–2026 Program, funded by LPDP/the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek).
The UI INSIGHT program was organized as an effort to enrich students’ academic insights while broadening global perspectives in the learning process. In addition, the program also serves as a platform to strengthen international collaboration among universities and researchers.
Through this program, students and lecturers have the opportunity to interact directly with world-renowned academics and researchers, while also discussing the latest developments in chemistry and multidisciplinary research.

During the third week of May 2026, the Department of Chemistry at Universitas Indonesia FMIPA UI hosted two professors from world-class universities. The first speaker was Suresh Sagadevan from Universiti Malaya, who has an h-index of 57. Activities involving Dr. Suresh were coordinated by Yuni K. Krisnandi, M.Sc.

Meanwhile, the second speaker was Yoshihiro Sato from Hokkaido University, who has an h-index of 53. The program involving Prof. Sato was coordinated by Iman Abdullah, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D.
The Head of the Department of Chemistry at Universitas Indonesia FMIPA UI, Munawar Khalil, Ph.D., stated that the UI INSIGHT program plays an important role in enhancing students’ academic insights through global perspectives and direct international experience.
“This program is expected to open opportunities for new research collaborations, particularly through the shared and interconnected research interests between the visiting professors and the academic staff of the Department of Chemistry at Universitas Indonesia FMIPA UI,” said Munawar Khalil.

Throughout the program, both visiting professors participated in various academic and research development activities. The agenda included teaching classes as guest lecturers, delivering public lectures in the MIPA Talk forum, conducting workshops on international scientific article writing, as well as workshops on research idea development and research collaboration.
The presence of these visiting professors was considered to provide students with direct international academic experience while also creating broader opportunities for scientific discussion among the academic community of Universitas Indonesia FMIPA UI.
Several courses also received enriched learning materials from the visiting professors, including Basic Chemistry II, Organic Chemical Synthesis, Metal and Nonmetal Chemistry, Inorganic Solids, and Heterogeneous Catalysis Chemistry.
In addition to teaching activities, the Department of Chemistry at Universitas Indonesia FMIPA UI also held discussions with lecturers and researchers to explore opportunities for research collaboration, joint scientific publications, academic exchanges, and the development of institutional networks at the international level.

Through the implementation of the UI INSIGHT program, Universitas Indonesia FMIPA UI hopes to continuously improve the quality of education, strengthen an internationally oriented academic atmosphere, and enhance the global reputation of Universitas Indonesia. The program is also expected to serve as a catalyst for expanding strategic collaborations with various universities and research institutions worldwide in support of the advancement of science and sustainable innovation.
