FMIPA UI Partners with the University of Edinburgh to Enhance Internationalization through Double Degree Programs and Joint Research
The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI), continues to strengthen its internationalization efforts. On Wednesday (July 30), FMIPA UI welcomed a delegation from the School of Biological Sciences, University of Edinburgh (UoE SBS), one of the world’s top universities ranked among the global top 50.
The meeting took place at the FMIPA UI Administrative Center Building, UI Depok Campus, and discussed potential collaborations in three main areas: double degree and joint degree programs, international student exchanges, and interdisciplinary research, particularly in the fields of biology and life sciences.

The Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., described this collaboration as part of the faculty’s global strategy. “We aim to build an internationally connected academic ecosystem. Strategic partnerships like this are a crucial foundation for enhancing the quality of our education and research,” said Prof. Dede.
Prof. Dede also stated that FMIPA UI has consistently promoted the development of leading research, particularly in the field of biology. This effort is reflected not only in the various international collaborations established but also in the global recognition achieved. In the 2025 QS World University Rankings (WUR), FMIPA UI ranked in the 501–550 range globally in the category of Biological Sciences. This achievement strengthens FMIPA UI’s position as one of the leading research centers in Southeast Asia and underscores its contribution to addressing various scientific challenges at the global level.

The University of Edinburgh has expressed its long-term commitment to collaborating with FMIPA UI. “We don’t want to be involved in just a single project. We are here to build a lasting relationship that creates meaningful mutual impact for the advancement of science,” said Prof. Eric C. Schirmer, Director of Internationalisation at UoE SBS.
The delegation from the University of Edinburgh School of Biological Sciences (UoE SBS) consisted of Prof. Eric C. Schirmer (Director of Internationalisation for the Edinburgh School of Biological Sciences), Indre Petrauskaite (Head of International Operations for the Edinburgh School of Biological Sciences), and Audrey Kon (Regional Director for Southeast Asia and Cross-Regional Projects for Edinburgh Global).
Meanwhile, from FMIPA UI, the attendees included Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Budiawan, Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs; Prof. Dr. Tito Latif Indra, S.Si., M.Si., Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration; Munawar Khalil, S.Si., M.Eng.Sc., Ph.D., Manager of Internationalization and Global Ranking; Dr. Lukmanda Evan Lubis, M.Si., F.Med., Manager of Cooperation, Ventures, and Alumni Relations; Dr. Dipo Aldila, S.Si., M.Si., Manager of Research and Community Engagement; Rika Tri Yunarti, S.Si., M.Eng., Ph.D., Education Manager; Dr. Denny R.
