FMIPA UI Strengthens Lecturer and Educational Staff Competencies through 2026 Service Excellence Certification Training and Capacity Building
Depok, October 23, 2026 – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI), held Service Excellence Certification Training and Capacity Building for lecturers and educational staff at The Wujil Resort & Conventions, Ungaran, Semarang Regency, Central Java, on October 21–23, 2026. The program was part of FMIPA UI Synergy 2026, which carried the theme “Science Reborn for Impactful: One Synergy, One Excellence, One Team.”
The event began with opening remarks by FMIPA UI Dean Prof. Dr. Tito Latif Indra, S.Si., M.Si., followed by a symbolic opening ceremony in which Prof. Tito struck a traditional bamboo slit drum (kentongan) together with the Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs, Prof. Anom Bowolaksono, Ph.D., and the Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration, Prof. Dr. Ivandini Tribidasari Anggraningrum, S.Si., M.Si. The ceremony marked the beginning of FMIPA UI's 2026 human resource training and capacity development program.

The program was attended by 249 participants, comprising 112 lecturers and 137 educational staff members from FMIPA UI. Participants represented all departments, the Faculty Administration Center (PAF), and several supporting units within the faculty. The involvement of these various units formed part of the faculty's efforts to strengthen collaboration and synergy across the entire FMIPA UI community.
The training was organized into two classes, each focusing on different competency development needs. The lecturers' class emphasized strengthening trust, collaboration, and team performance, while the educational staff class focused on improving service excellence competencies. This division was designed to address the professional development needs of lecturers and educational staff according to their respective roles while fostering synergy in carrying out their duties and responsibilities across the faculty.
The lecturers' class featured Eko Suseno, HRM, S.E., M.M., PFC., a national trainer and motivational speaker, who delivered a session entitled “Stronger Together: Building Trust, Collaboration, and High-Performance Team”. The session emphasized the importance of building trust and collaboration among lecturers, including across departments, as the foundation for creating cohesive, high-performing teams.

Meanwhile, the educational staff class participated in Training Service Excellence bersama Nessa Ghozal, public speaker dan communication trainer, under the theme “Building a Responsive, Empathetic, and Professional Service Culture”. The training focused on effective communication and service recovery, , which involves restoring service users' satisfaction and trust when services fail to meet their expectations. These competencies are essential for educational staff in delivering academic and administrative services to students, lecturers, and faculty partners.
According to Prof. Tito, the classes were designed to ensure that competency development for lecturers and educational staff progressed in parallel while addressing their respective roles.
“Students, partners, and the public experience FMIPA UI through two aspects: the academic quality developed by lecturers and the service quality delivered by educational staff. Both must grow together. Through this training, we aim to strengthen collaboration among lecturers and make faculty services more responsive, empathetic, and professional,” Prof. Tito said.
Strengthening service excellence competencies among educational staff also aligns with FMIPA UI's achievements at the 2026 Universitas Indonesia Zone of Integrity (UI ZI) Award . At the event, FMIPA UI received the Best Area for Improving Public Service Quality award. The assessment of this area covered several components, including service excellence culture, service standards, user satisfaction surveys, and complaint management. Through this training, the faculty hopes to sustain the development of a strong service culture and further improve the quality of its academic and administrative services.
The first day concluded with a presentation by Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris, M.Sc., Deputy for Coordination of Empowering Village Communities, Disadvantaged Regions, and Specific Areas at the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment of the Republic of Indonesia. He previously served as Dean of FMIPA UI from 2014 to 2019. In a session entitled “FMIPA UI 2030: From Knowledge to Intelligence”, he invited participants to reflect on how a science faculty could harness the growing potential of intelligence to deliver service excellence and create tangible benefits for society.

In his presentation, Prof. Haris emphasized that advances in artificial intelligence (AI) present an opportunity for FMIPA UI to strengthen cross-departmental collaboration and develop more effective learning, research, and services. This vision aligns with the spirit of One Synergy, One Excellence, One Team which places collaboration, excellence, and cooperation across the academic community at the heart of the faculty's development.
He also stressed that service excellence in the AI era must prioritize speed, accuracy, and a human touch. He summarized this principle in the statement, “Automate the routine. Humanize the moments that matter,” highlighting the use of technology to handle routine tasks so that people can focus more on services that require empathy and trust.
As part of the training program, participants will receive FMIPA UI 2026 Training Service Excellence and Capacity Building certificates. These certificates are expected to serve as records of professional competency development, reflecting participants' respective roles and responsibilities.
“These certificates will equip lecturers and educational staff as they continue to develop their competencies. More importantly, we want high service standards to be understood as a shared responsibility, from the classroom to the service counter,” Prof. Tito said.
Through this program, FMIPA UI reaffirmed the importance of collaboration and service quality improvement as integral parts of faculty human resource development. Strengthening the competencies of lecturers and educational staff is expected to foster a more collaborative working environment and improve the quality of academic and administrative services, in line with the spirit of Science Reborn: Unggul, Impactful untuk Indonesia.
